Discipline and boundaries are considered more effective than punishment, as they focus more on teaching a lesson without causing fear. This does not, of course, mean that there are no consequences, e.g., "when you lie to me, I lose my trust. Of course, you can regain it, but until that happens, I would prefer you to stay home after school so I know you are safe...". It is also good to avoid threatening with irrational consequences, such as "You will never leave the house again." It is good not to start talking to children if you do not have their attention, to be at their eye level, and to maintain eye contact. Use as few and clear words as possible when giving instructions and show empathy. Strengthen the sense of cooperation, e.g., "it's bath time, do you want to go now or after we do the puzzle? Let's shake hands to agree that we will go after the puzzle without a fuss." When they don't listen while you're trying to get ready to get in the car, don't waste time with outbursts like "why don't you listen?". Take a deep breath and try to get ready, and then once you're in the car, you can look for solutions together on how everyone can get ready on time to leave the house.
